Our History
A Legacy of Education, Service & Patriotism
KDS DAR School has proudly served the Grant community for more than a century. Our story began through the vision of the Kate Duncan Smith Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, which recognized the need for educational opportunities for children in the rural mountain communities of North Alabama.
🏫 Founded in 1924, the school was established on Gunter Mountain and named in honor of Kate Duncan Smith, a dedicated Alabama DAR leader. What began as an effort to provide children with access to education grew into a school community built on the values of education, citizenship, service, and patriotism.
🇺🇸 Over the decades, KDS DAR has grown and changed alongside the Grant community while continuing to honor the traditions on which it was founded. Generations of families have walked our halls, creating a strong connection between our school's past and its future.
⭐ Today, KDS DAR continues that legacy by preparing students to become productive, prepared, and patriotic members of society.
A proud past. A strong community. A bright future.
